Welcome to Reception Orange!

This year, Reception Orange will be taught by Miss Albiston and Miss Kirkham with Miss Wilcock covering on Mondays.  The children will also have music lessons with Mrs Stuart and PE with Mr Riley.

Welcome back!

This half term, the children will be buzzing, creeping and crawling with their new topic ‘Things

with Wings’.

They will make predictions about and observe the life cycle of butterflies; learn how different insects move and where they can be found.

Design Technology will see the children designing and building their very own bug hotels before using a variety of non-fiction texts to put them in the best places to attract visitors. Their topic work with key texts will support their developing understanding and recognition of rhyme.

Some of this half term’s key texts include: Superworm, Arrghh Spider! and Christopher’s Caterpillar.

The children will also continue to develop their meadow planting more flowers and herbs as the weather begins to warm.

Finally, the children will be joining the whole school in celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee.

In maths this half term, the children will be consolidating their counting, adding and subtracting skills before jumping in to doubling, halving and odds and evens.

This half term's Jigsaw topic is: 'Relationships' it will be looking at;

  • My family -I belong to my family
  • Friendship – I know how to make friends
  • Friendship – solving problems and staying friends
  • Falling out and bullying
  • Friendship - I know how to be a good friend

To support your children this half term you can;

  • Write your child's name in ALL of their belongings, it can be very difficult for the children to keep track of their belongings initially therefore unnamed items are easily lost.
  • Ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather - we access our outdoor classroom whatever the weather.
  • Practise reading and writing the Reception High Frequency words with your child.
  • Share lots of books including your child's reading book, each night.
  • Practise getting dressed and undressed independently, for example taking a jumper off can be very tricky.

We appreciate all of your support as your children continue their learning journey in Reception. If you have any questions please feel free to contact school and we will help you as best we can.

Don't forget to add to Tapestry!
