Swimming

During the CLASP afternoon on a thursday, 4 children will attend swimming for a 10 week block during either Autumn, Spring or Summer term. Swimming lessons this year will take place at the new Bewsey and Dallam Hub.

Swimming and water safety

It is a National Curriculum requirement that KS2 pupils are able to swim.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]

  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Sadly not all children manage to achieve this goal in their swimming unit however, as a school we recognise the importance of swimming therefore we revisit swimming lessons again in Year 6, as part of CLASP.
