Snack Money
Morning snack can be sent from home or purchased from school. Anyone buying snack from school must commit to the whole week and pay via ParentPay on Monday morning before 8:30am. The maximum amount snack will cost is £2.50 per week. There is also an option to pay for the whole term.
Reading Books
Reading Books will usually be changed Wednesday and Friday. Please read with your child every night. I will check reading records each morning.
Knowledge Organiser
You have been given a Knowledge Organiser and Homework Grid with some tasks relating to our topic.
Each week we will have a focus that has been covered on the Knowledge Organiser:
Homework
Children will get up to 15 spellings per week to learn at home which should be handed in every Thursday.
Children must read at least 3 times per week at home. If children read each night totaling 5 times per week then a weekly reward is given.

Autumn 1:
Who were the Egyptians?
+ Black History Month
A history focus where we will learn about the lives of The Ancient Egyptians and their many achievements. As well as discovering about their mumification rituals in a mummy making workshops we will explore the pyramids, Hierarchy and the famous archeologist Howard Carter. Our writing will cover fiction writing and information texts with instruction writing.

Autumn 2:
Is the Earth violent?
This term we will focus on our geography targets to cover the development of Earthquakes and Volcanoes. In this unit we will uncover how these natural disasters come to be and how science is used to track their movements and activity. The children will be able to label and name the different parts and identify where in the world they are and why they are only in specific areas.
Our writing will involve writing explanation texts as well as fictional stories based the lives of those in Pompei many years ago.

Spring 1:
Lodge Lane to Louisiana.
This term is our geography topic where we will look at the key differences between a South American country and our own local area. We will develop geographical skills such as map reading and find out where Louisiana sits on a globe in relation to where we live in Warrington. To develop our writing we will also explore the tradition of the Mardi Gras festival writing our very own travel brochure and look at the story of Huckleberry Finn to create our own fictional story.

Spring 2:
This term we will focus on a literacy writing and drama to develop new ways to write fictional stories and develop the characters as we look into some classical children’s tales from across the centuries. In order to develop our writing further we will use drama techniques to develop dialogue between characters in a more in-depth approach.

Summer 1:
A Child’s War
This term is all about a local history study where we will look at the lives of local children during WW2 and how the war affected them. What did they have to change? Where did they have to go?
our writing will be based on letter writing and fictional stories using historic content and specific vocabulary from our history unit.

Summer 2:
This term we will focus on geography skills and knowledge looking closely at mountains, lakes, the water cycle and use of land in the Lake District. We will be heading over to Windermere on a day trip to explore the area where we will travel by coach, train and boat to take in the sights of the local area.
To develop our writing we will be working on creating non-chronological reports and information texts.
